The “PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor” exam complies with the requirements of the PECB Examination and Certification Program (ECP). It encompasses the following competency domains:

Domain 3: Fundamental audit concepts and principles
Domain 4: Preparing an ISO/IEC 42001 audit
Domain 5: Conducting an ISO/IEC 42001 audit

Certification
PECB ISO/IEC 42001 Certification Path and Requirements
After successfully passing the exam, you may apply for one of four professional credentials based on your level of experience. All credentials require passing the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor Exam (or an approved equivalent) and signing the PECB Code of Ethics.
1. Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Provisional Auditor
This credential is ideal for new entrants to the field who have mastered theoretical knowledge but lack practical auditing or industry experience.

2. Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Auditor
This credential is designed for professionals with foundational experience in artificial intelligence management and auditing.

Exam Requirement: Pass the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor Exam (or equivalent)

Professional Experience: Two years total, including at least one year of specific work experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Management System Audit Experience: A minimum total of 200 hours of qualifying audit activities

3. Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor
This is the standard credential for experienced professionals qualified to plan, lead, and manage AI management system audit teams.

Exam Requirement: Pass the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor Exam (or equivalent)

Professional Experience: Five years total, including at least two years of specific work experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Management System Audit Experience: A minimum total of 300 hours of qualifying audit activities

4. Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Senior Lead Auditor
This is the highest tier for expert practitioners with extensive, long-term leadership experience in auditing AI frameworks.

Exam Requirement: Pass the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor Exam (or equivalent)

Professional Experience: Ten years total, including at least seven years of specific work experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Management System Audit Experience: A minimum total of 1,000 hours of qualifying audit activities

Additional Requirement: Sign the PECB Code of Ethics
Note on Qualifying Audit Activities: For audit hours to be recognized by PECB, they must adhere to best practices and include activities such as audit planning, managing audit programs, drafting audit or nonconformity reports, conducting on-site audits, and leading audit teams.
General
- Certification and examination fees are included in the training course price.
- Participants will receive comprehensive training materials containing over 450 pages of explanatory content, examples, best practices, exercises, and quizzes.
- An attestation of course completion, valued at 31 CPD (Continuing Professional Development) credits, will be issued to participants who attend the training course.
- In the event of a failed exam, candidates may retake it for free within 12 months of their initial attempt.
Requirements
