Intensive ETAP Training

System Modeling and Load Flow Analysis

  • ETAP Interface & One-Line Diagram (OLD)
    • Navigating the Graphical User Interface (GUI) and Project Toolbar.
    • Constructing a reliable One-Line Diagram: incorporating Busbars, Transformers, Generators, and Loads.
    • Utilizing Element Libraries and Property Editors for effective management.
  • Load Flow Analysis
    • Configuring Study Cases and defining solution parameters.
    • Gaining insight into the Newton-Raphson, Fast Decoupled, and Adaptive Newton-Raphson calculation methods.
    • Practical Session: Executing Load Flow studies, interpreting outcomes such as voltage drops and power factors, and employing the "Alert View" to detect overloaded components.

Short Circuit & Motor Starting Studies

  • Short Circuit Analysis
    • Overview of IEEE and IEC standards for fault calculations.
    • Evaluating 3-phase, Line-to-Ground, Line-to-Line, and Double Line-to-Ground fault scenarios.
    • Establishing the Duty and Breaking capacity requirements for Circuit Breakers.
  • Motor Starting Analysis
    • Differentiating between Static and Dynamic motor starting models.
    • Evaluating the effect of "Voltage Dip" on other system components during motor acceleration.
    • Practical Session: Comparing "Direct-on-Line" (DOL) starting against Star-Delta or VFD methods within the simulation environment.

Protection Coordination & Network Simulation

  • Protective Device Coordination (Star View)
    • Introducing the ETAP Star (Protection & Coordination) module.
    • Incorporating Overcurrent (50/51) and Ground Fault (50N/51N) relays.
    • Drawing Time-Current Characteristic (TCC) curves.
  • Selectivity and Discrimination
    • Tuning relay settings to ensure isolation of only the faulted section.
    • Validating transformer damage curves and cable thermal limits.
  • Hands-on Workshop: Distribution Network Simulation
    • Capstone Project: Developing a standard distribution network from the ground up.
    • Conducting a comprehensive study that includes Load Flow, Short Circuit, and Coordination analyses.
    • Generating final reports and visualizing results.
